BarLavento is a Brazilian band, located in Salvador, Bahia, that plays a traditional and ancient kind of music made by african slaves called "Samba de roda" that in English could be like "Roots Samba". One place that brings huge influence to the band is the very small village "Muta" where one of the leaders of BarLavento Davizinho de Muta was born. Since a child Davizinho learned the Samba de roda within that community. Even nowadays, the people of Mutá(mostly fishermen) keep the tradition, singing during wok time, building their houses. After work, they still sing the same songs, however in faster versions. The leaders of BarLavento Hamilton Reis e Davizinho de Mutá have been played in many places of Brazil for more then ten years. Besides, during 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005 they played in Europe, bringing the "Samba de roda" to countries like England, France, Spain and Italy. In this time, BarLavento could show its music in some festivals such as Des Suds in Marseilles and the Music Festival Live in Vic. The band has just finished its first CD called "O buraco de Maroca" In Houaiss Dicionary, barlavento means "Direction where wind comes".
