A paciente:
Sra.
“The positive identification of Leishmania infection was achieved in bone samples by 2 independent approaches. First, a molecular ancient DNA (aDNA) analysis identified a specific 123-bp fragment of a conserved region of the minicircle molecule of the parasite ́s kinetoplastid mitochondrial DNA (4,5) which on direct sequencing showed a Leishmania-specific sequence compatible with L. infantum
This PCR result was independently replicated in 2 laboratories and additionally supported by the second approach, a protein assay showing a concomitant positive reaction by detecting IgG against L. infantum by Western blot sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.”

  2. When I read this and the original article I think the following.
What a tragedy!! A young beautiful women marry. During her lifetime she exceedingly fragile , presents a series of symptoms of severe disease and for some reason gets pregnant with a clock-wise precision. The fragility is interesting per se and reminds of AIDS.
What is the driving force? is it the opposite of Romeo and Juliette?
The second thing is , do this article contribute to the understanding of Leishmania,? Honestly and without any ill meanings no! I see this little faint band and think of the Leishmania chromosomes without Introns. An old genome, Eons older than ours,no appreciable genetic drift that makes it difficult to distinguish from its lethal infectious relatives. The 98% homology , whatever it is, and any doubt is overshadowed by the fact that two laboratories make the same assay. I do not know friends. Maybe I do the wrong science.
